چکیده
We report on Chandra X-ray Observatory (CXO) High-Energy Transmission Grating (HETG) spectra of the dipping Low Mass X-ray Binary (LMXB) 1A 1744−361 during its July 2008 outburst. We find that its persistent emission is well modeled by a blackbody (kT ∼ 1.0 keV) plus power-law (Γ ∼ 1.7) with an absorption edge at 7.6 keV. In the residuals of the combined spectrum we find a significant absorption line at 6.961±0.002 keV, consistent with the Fe XXVI (hydrogen-like Fe) 2 1 transition. We place an upper limit on the velocity of a redshifted flow of v < 221 km s. We find an equivalent width for the line of 27 −3 eV, from which we determine a column density of 7±1×1017 cm via a curve-of-growth analysis. Using XSTAR simulations, we place a lower limit on the ionization parameter of > 10 erg cm s. The properties of this line are consistent with those observed in other dipping LMXBs. Using Rossi X-ray Timing Explorer (RXTE) data accumulated during this latest outburst we present an updated color-color diagram which clearly shows that 1A 1744−361 is an “atoll” source. Finally, using additional dips found in the RXTE and CXO data we provide an updated orbital period estimate of 52±5 minutes. RXTE Observations of 1A 1744–361: Correlated Spectral and Timing Behavior
We analyze Rossi X–ray Timing Explorer (RXTE) Proportional Counter Array (PCA) data of the transient low mass X–ray binary (LMXB) system 1A 1744–361. We explore the X–ray intensity and spectral evolution of the source, perform timing analysis, and find that 1A 1744–361 shows ‘atoll’ behavior during the outbursts. The color-color diagram indicates that this LMXB was observed in a low intensity s...
متن کاملAn XMM-Newton study of the X-ray binary MXB 1659-298 and the discovery of narrow X-ray absorption lines
We report the discovery of narrow X-ray absorption lines from the low-mass X-ray binary MXB1659298 during an XMM-Newton observation in 2001 February. The 7.1 hr orbital cycle is clearly evident with narrow X-ray eclipses preceded by intense dipping activity. A sinusoid-like OM B-band modulation with a peak-to-peak modulation of ∼0.5 magnitude and a minimum coincident with the X-ray eclipse is v...
متن کاملDiscovery of absorption features of the ADC and systematic acceleration of the X-ray burst rate in XB1323-619
We present results from analysis of the observation of the dipping, quasi-periodic bursting low mass X-ray binary XB1323-619 made with XMM-Newton in Jan., 2003. In spectral analysis of the non-dip, non-burst EPIC PN spectrum, a number of absorption lines were discovered, notably at 6.70 and 6.98 keV which we identify with scattering by high ionization state ions Fe XXV and Fe XXVI. Such feature...
متن کاملBepposax Observation of the Eclipsing Dipping X-ray Binary X 1658-298
Results of a 2000 August 12–13 BeppoSAX observation of the 7.1 hr eclipsing, dipping, bursting, transient, low-mass X-ray binary (LMXRB) X1658-298 are presented. The spectrum outside of eclipses, dips and bursts can be modeled by the combination of a soft diskblackbody and a harder Comptonized component with a small amount (1.3 × 10 atom cm) of low-energy absorption. In contrast, an RXTE observ...
متن کاملThe broad-band X–ray spectrum of the dipping Low Mass X-ray Binary EXO0748–676
We present results of a 0.1-100 keV BeppoSAX observation of the dipping low-mass X-ray binary (LMXRB) EXO0748–676 performed in 2000 November. During the observation EXO0748–676 exhibited X-ray eclipses, type I X-ray bursts and dipping activity over a wide range of orbital phases. The 0.1–100 keV “dip– free”(ie. dipping and eclipsing intervals excluded) spectrum is complex, especially at low-ene...
